Why Join the MSM Data Team?

 

We are currently part way through a two year programme to utilise open source and best of breed technologies such as Talend for ETL, Vertica for Data Warehousing along with R and Tableau for data mining to develop the UK’s biggest and most comprehensive data asset.

We are now looking to build a team to work across all our brands and will need a business analyst with data analysis experience as part of that capability.

This is an exciting opportunity to use your skills but also gain experience in a fully cloud based warehouse environment, get exposure to working with a number of business areas and see how to work with a variety of different data sources.

 

What will I be doing?

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with business stakeholders and customer representatives to determine and define business requirements using a variety of elicitation techniques.
  • Analyse existing systems and data in order to define “to-be” processes and identify business rules.
  • Articulate requirements to design and development teams, ensuring all acceptance criteria is clearly defined and understood.
  • Facilitate and manage user acceptance testing with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure solutions are fit for purpose.
  • Work with colleagues and business stakeholders to investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using methodical and consistent techniques.
  • Work with the Project Manager, Product Owner and all Stakeholders to ensure appropriate prioritization of scope.
  • Document all work using the required standards, methods and tools.
  • Contribute to regular team retrospectives.

 


What skills and experience do I need? ­­

 

 

Essential:

  • Analysis of complex business and IT problems, with demonstrable experience of working with a recognised Agile project method. The role will involve liaison with all sections of the business and technology community to collect both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • As an Agile organisation you will be active in daily stand-ups. You will build and maintain close working relationships with your colleagues and other stakeholders to maximise the success of the team.
  • Demonstrated experience of a variety of methods to elicit requirements (Workshops, 1-2-1 discussions, knowledge share tools)
  • Work with colleagues and business stakeholders to investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using methodical and consistent techniques.
  • Experience of constructing user stories, use cases and UML diagrams as required. Ensure acceptance criteria are defined, understood and realized for each item of scope.
  • Good SQL skills are a must and the ability to perform basic data analysis using those skills
  • Work with the Delivery Lead, Product Manager and all Stakeholders to ensure appropriate prioritization of scope.
  • Experience of working with one or more of the following business areas – Finance, CRM, Analytics, BI – to elicit requirements and support business change activities.
  • Evidence of working with customer data and understanding the due diligence required to work with that data appropriately.
  • Strong team worker used to work in a highly collaborative teams.
  • Be pro-active in identifying risks, dependencies and issues.
  • Experience of working on a Data Warehouse application or as a minimum working with large scale data systems.

Nice to have:

  • A Degree (or equivalent qualification) in an IT or business subject.
  • Well developed negotiating and influencing skills, including at a senior management level.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Have a strong awareness of technology considerations.
  • Experience in working with reporting tools and on BI focused projects.
  • Understanding of data modelling and design
